Product Description

The EC1000S 750VA/1kVA Programmable Benchtop Power Source is one of California Instruments’ most versatile products; offering a large 5.7" LCD, powerful measurement capabilities, limiter settings, sequencing, and a USB interface, bundled with Instrument Control Software; all in a small compact unit weighing less than 20 lbs (9.5kg). Introduction The EC1000S is used in research, development, and testing of various small-capacity built-in power source units, compact consumer electronics, and battery-powered modules. This powerful AC/DC Benchtop-unit also functions as power source for testing characteristics of relays and switches, and is used in inspection lines for various electronic devices. The EC1000S programmable AC/DC power source is a powerful test equipment instruments that can output AC and DC power, features a compact design for convenient desktop use, and provides a wealth of measurement functions. It also features eight output modes, with DC output, external input amplification, and line-synchronized output. Applications The EC1000S is used to test electrical devices below 1kVA. Some examples of possible applications are: medical equipment (medical imaging/medical monitors/EKG systems), communication devices (telephones/cell phones/mobile computers), computer devices (scanners/monitors/printers/computer systems), automobile (motors/electrical system/hybrid technology), avionic testing (control panels), appliances (microwaves/washers/dryers), home electronics (televisions/CD/DVD players/stereos), portable electronics (MP3 players/palm computers/satellite radios). This powerful, yet portable instrument can be used for almost any application requiring less than 1 kVA of power with a current below 10A/40Apk. Remote Interface The EC1000S can be controlled remotely from an external computer via a USB interface. The accompanying software supports use of the following functions: Data analysis through remote interface Sequence editing and execution Arbitrary waveform editing and transfer Data logger (by capturing measured values) Worldwide power supply input is supported. Input power factor control function minimizes power supply input current Features The EC1000S includes many features that are usually only found in larger, more expensive AC/DC systems. These features include: Control panel with large LCD screen o   Settings and measured values are displayed on a large, easy-to-read backlit screen. Various output modes o   Output modes include two operation modes: alternate current (AC) and direct current (AC+DC), each of which can be combined with four signal source modes: internal (INT), external (EXT), internal + external (ADD), and external synchronization (SYNC) for a total of eight modes. In the AC mode, DC component is removed. Various measurement functions o   The EC1000S is equipped with the following measurement functions. o   Voltage (RMS value, average DC value, peak value) o   Current (RMS value, average DC value, peak value, peak hold) o   Power (effective, reactive, apparent) o   Frequency (only in the external synchronization mode) o   Load power factor o   Load crest factor o   Harmonic current (up to 40th harmonic, 50/60 Hz fundamental only) Enables AC-superimposed DC output o   When in the AC+DC mode, an AC wave (sine wave, square wave, or arbitrary waveform) can be superimposed on the DC output. Also supports capacitor input load (up to crest factor 4 is supported) o   Enables peak current output of up to four times as large as the rated current (RMS value). Can be used as an external input amplifier o   When “internal + external” is selected, an internal signal source can be added to the external signal input. Sequence function o   When using an internal signal source, output parameters (output voltage, output frequency, etc.) can be successively and rapidly changed or swept. In addition, output of specified patterns can be provided by program in advance. Output current limiter function, voltage and frequency upper limit and lower limit setting functions o   The output current is limited within the maximum values that have been set independently for positive and negative. As for the output voltage and the output frequency, their setting ranges can be adjustable. USB interface (USBTMC) is standard equipped o   A USB interface is provided for external control, such as from a personal computer. Output outlets equipped on front panel (universal type) o   Various types of power plugs from around the world can be connected. Supports worldwide range input power line voltages o   Input power factor control (PFC) function for 90 V AC to 250 V AC helps minimize input power line current. Software The Instrument Control Software is a program that supports remote control of the EC1000S, an arbitrary waveform function, and a sequence function. This software runs under the Windows 2000/XP/Vista and controls transfer of control data, arbitrary waveform data, and sequence data on the EC1000S via a USB interface and execution of other operations. The software contains the following functions: Remotely controlling the EC1000S Monitoring the status of the EC1000S Logging measurement values for the EC1000S Creating, editing, and saving arbitrary waveform data Transferring arbitrary waveform data to the EC1000S Creating, editing, and saving sequence data Transferring sequence data to the EC1000S Previewing sequence data Controlling the sequence run by the EC1000S Displaying the progress of the currently running sequence on the monitor
